What to save before a website migration

Keep the previous configuration traceable and leave useful evidence for a rollback.

List the names you actually use

The apex, www, API and email entry points can all use different names. Query each one from your own service inventory instead of saving only the apex. This tool does not discover all of your service subdomains.

Save the current answers

Export records and note the time, resolver and purpose of each service. A public snapshot is not a complete control panel backup. Record editing permissions, hidden settings and provider-specific features separately.

Plan around existing caches

If you intend to lower TTL, do it early enough for old caches to expire before the move. A new TTL does not actively clear copies elsewhere. Plan the change window around the previous settings and your providers’ requirements.
